Pick: 3 units on Toledo +4 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Toledo is never an easy out when you get them at home. They have also proven to be best when they aren't expected to win as they have turned in an 8-3 ATS mark as a home dog this decade. The Buffalos, who once played even with Nebraska and Oklahoma in the Big-12, have not been seen since the 1990s. The proof came last week when they were a big favorite at home vs. a weak Colorado State team with a brand new quarterback, and before you knew it they were down 20-3. The offense is simply a mess and the coaching is suspect. Dan Hawkins, while he killed it at Boise, is just 13-23 ATS at Colorado. He claims the Buffs are capable of winning ten games this season, but now there are just 11 left and he has to go to Oklahoma State and Texas yet, so I don't see it. The play calling and defensive line are issues and the secondary is very suspect. This is a team that has won a total of two road games in the last three years and have no right being favored in this spot. Very telling is the fact the Buffalo's are 0-6 ATS following a game where the offense generated 275 yards or less. Toledo is a tough out at home where they are 27-13 ATS in their last 40 played. They are also 15-5 ATS in their last 20 games at home coming off a road loss. I'm going with Toledo in this one.

THE GOLD SHEET

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11
*Colorado 29 - TOLEDO 27—Sure, CU’s power ground attack figures to
exploit undersized UT defense shredded by Purdue in 52-31 setback (Rockets
allowed 315 YR!). But believe seasoned MAC squad trades points most of way
with productive sr. QB Opelt hooking up with dangerous WR trio of 6-5 sr. S.
Williams, 6-5 Bailey & electric 5-9 true frosh Page (combined for 33 catches for
378 yds. vs. Boilers) vs. still-iffy Buff 2ndary (65%, just 7 ints.) on short
turnaround. UT’s new HC Tim Beckman (Oklahoma St. d.c. previous 2Ys)
familiar with Buff personnel, and Rockets 5-2 as a 3-pt.-or-more underdog in
Glass Bowl since ‘04.

Nelly's Greensheet

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2009
Colorado (NL) TOLEDO 8:00 PM
The Buffaloes were run off their own field by rival Colorado State in the opening week and in a
season where the CU coaching staff will be under intense pressure it was a very discouraging
opener. Colorado only rushed for a net of 29 yards on 21 attempts and after falling behind
early Colorado was forced to the air and not enough plays were made to ever seriously
threaten to take the lead. Colorado’s defense was a bit of a question mark entering this
season. Although the Buffaloes made some key stops to stay within reach, Colorado was
dramatically out-gained in the game. The biggest concerns come on offense however as
Colorado was forced into a short passing game that averaged just five yards per completion
as no plays could be made downfield and the running game was shut down. Colorado has
only won two road games in the three seasons under Coach Hawkins, going 0-4 S/U last
season so this will be far from an easy situation. Toledo fell behind 21-0 and then 45-14, but
the Rockets did find some rhythm on offense, posting nearly 500 yards in a 52-31 loss at
Purdue last week. Almost all the yards came through the air as Rockets senior QB Aaron
Opelt had 69 pass attempts. Toledo should have opportunities to score again this week but
Colorado should also have much more success on the ground as Purdue posted 315 rushing
yards last week. Expect Toledo to aggressively attack down the field knowing Colorado’s
limitations in that regard and if the Rockets can avoid mistakes they will have a chance for an
upset over a CU squad that has not proven the ability to win road games . COLORADO BY 3

Hondo

Hondo plunged deeper into the red yesterday when he won with the Fish but lost with the Reds and 'Stros to boost the IOU's to 950 shannons.

Tonight, Mr. Aitch will strike up the band with the one and only Jimmy Shields -- 10 units on the Rays over the Sawx. Also, he'll put some dinero on Pineiro -- 10 on the Cards.
